Why Skin Prep Matters More Than the Makeup Itself
Even the most skilled makeup artist can't fully hide dehydrated, flaky, or uneven skin on the big day — makeup simply sits better and lasts longer on skin that's been properly prepared in the weeks leading up to the wedding, not just the morning of. A little planning ahead makes a visible difference in your final bridal look and photos.
4–6 Weeks Before: Start Early
- Book a facial appointment to address any specific concerns (dullness, breakouts, uneven tone) with enough time to see results.
- Stay consistent with hydration — both skincare products and drinking enough water daily.
- Avoid trying brand-new skincare products this close to the wedding in case of a reaction.
2 Weeks Before: Fine-Tune
- Book your bridal makeup trial — this is also a great time to see how your skin takes makeup and adjust your routine if needed.
- Gentle exfoliation 1–2 times this week to keep skin smooth (avoid harsh treatments right before the big day).
- Keep meals balanced and reduce salty/sugary foods that can cause puffiness or breakouts.
The Week Of: Keep It Simple
- Stick to your normal skincare routine — this is not the time to experiment.
- Prioritize sleep and hydration, both of which show up directly in your skin and under-eye area.
- Avoid any new facials, peels, or treatments within 3–4 days of the wedding to prevent redness or sensitivity.
The Morning Of
Cleanse, moisturize lightly, and let your artist do the rest — over-applying products right before makeup application can actually make foundation harder to blend. Trust the process you've built over the past few weeks.
