What Is a Moroccan Bath?

A Moroccan bath, also known as a hammam ritual, is a traditional North African cleansing and exfoliation treatment built around steam, black soap, and a deep body scrub. Unlike a quick shower or a standard spa facial, it's a full-body ritual designed to strip away dead skin, open the pores, and leave your skin visibly softer and more radiant — often after just one session.

The ritual usually begins with steam to soften the skin, followed by an application of traditional black soap (made from olives), a short rest to let it absorb, and then a firm exfoliation using a kessa glove. Many versions finish with a rinse, a moisturizing body treatment, and sometimes a light massage.

The Benefits of a Moroccan Bath

  • Deep exfoliation — removes layers of dead skin that regular exfoliants can't reach.
  • Smoother, brighter skin — many clients notice a visible difference immediately after their first session.
  • Improved circulation — the combination of steam and scrubbing helps stimulate blood flow.
  • Deep relaxation — the ritual itself is slow and calming, making it a genuine stress-relief experience, not just a skincare treatment.
  • Better absorption of moisturizers — with dead skin removed, any lotion or oil applied afterward sinks in more effectively.

What to Expect at Nahawand Beauty Center

At Nahawand Beauty Center in Abu Dhabi, we offer both a Traditional Moroccan Bath and a more indulgent Royal Moroccan Bath, which extends the ritual with a full body wrap and polish. Sessions typically run 60–90 minutes depending on which option you choose, and take place in a clean, private, relaxing space at our Corniche Plaza Tower location.

If you'd rather enjoy the ritual without leaving home, select Moroccan bath and body treatments are also available as part of our home service across Abu Dhabi.

How Often Should You Get One?

Many of our regular clients treat it as a monthly ritual, though some prefer it more often during drier months when skin tends to need extra care. Even a single session before a big event — a wedding, a trip, or simply a reset — leaves skin noticeably smoother and more radiant.
